overview

This Tav Talk is hosted by the APS WA College of Clinical Psychology.

Emotion Focused Therapy is based on the understanding that most psychological symptoms are driven by underlying painful emotions. The therapy is aimed at directly working with, and modifying these underlying emotions. The therapy is process-facilitative and uses experiential techniques, such as chair-work, systematic-evocative unfolding, and focusing, to access, express and transform emotions. These interventions are applied according to a process-diagnosis, where different in-session markers are used to determine interventions in a moment-by-moment manner.

This presentation will provide a brief overview of the theory and practice of Emotion Focused Therapy, illustrating the key principles of working with emotion using video examples of the therapy.
